Welcome back to Buy a Book, Tell a Friend!

This week Taylor Law visits the blog. I met Taylor in person in February 2016 when we attended the Coastal Magic Convention in Daytona, Florida. Since then we've done several online events together. Taylor writes M/M paranormal and fantasy romance and romantic suspense. Her most recent release is WRONG WAY, book 2 in the Shenandoah Pack series. Taylor's tagline is Bend Rules, Redefine Reality. Today I asked her what is her favorite thing about the M/M genre.

BBTF: When going to writer conferences, what is your favorite thing to do with readers?

Taylor:
There are several things I love about this genre. The first has nothing to do with writing at all. The LGBTQ genre itself is like a dysfunctional family. I say that with the utmost respect and love for everyone in it or who supports us. We will squabble within our groups, disagree, and there will be some form of drama, but God help anyone who attacks us or says anything bad about us. And if one of us needs help, the others are right there setting up raffles or GoFundMe or whatever. No group can rally like the LGBTQ world, and they take care of their own.

The second main reason I love writing in this genre is the expectations are different. Women have a tendency to imagine themselves as the main character, and so if the character does something that they wouldn't do, they have difficulty meshing the two. I'm generalizing, of course. When the characters are both gay males, the women can watch the story as an outsider. It's a different perspective for them. I can just tell the story as it is, and they come along for the ride. I also love being able to write characters that represent some of the friends I had growing up. I was a music/theatre geek, with everything that entails. So the individuals I spent most of my time with varied by color, race, gender, and sexuality. It's unfortunate that general romance tends to limit those things. I'm happy that these characters come to me and I'm able to tell their stories. I couldn't be prouder to be a part of this community.
