This week Cheryl Dragon visits the blog. I met Cheryl at Authors After Dark in Charlotte, N.C. in 2014. Cheryl not only had a wonderful laugh, she had a wicked sense of humor and some hot, sexy stories. Cheryl writes contemporary erotic romance of all parings including menage and F/F, plus she also writes some cozy mysteries under the pen name C.C. Dragon, and her brand is Sinfully Hot Erotic Romance. Today I asked her one question about her many genres and what she likes most about them.
BBTF: You write a wide variety of genres from erotic menage romance to cozy mystery. What attracted you most about each genre?
Cheryl: I do genre hop…lol. Even within erotic romance, I've written MF, MM, FF, MMMF etc… I also write cozy mysteries as CC Dragon and might be working on another genre that requires another pen name (sigh).
I think my muse has ADHD. Maybe it just fears writing the same genre over and over would make the stories feel stale. I enjoy the variety and never get bored.
What attracted me to erotic romance was that women could be sexual without shame. Any fantasy or kink was safe to explore. Even MM, women love reading it! Growing up, boys have Playboy or porn was just ‘boys will be boys’, but girls interested in sex were judged. It was crazy. Slut shaming still happens, but women know they aren’t alone and have a lot more access to everything now!
Cozy Mysteries…I’ve always loved mysteries. Agatha Christie etc…and TV shows. I love writing first person and mysteries. In fact, I’d tried writing them years ago but the NY market was hard to break into. Once self-publishing became a viable option, I decided to try that out and so far it’s working out well.
Most of my romance is light and fun. Cozy mysteries are humorous and light. I may be working on something a tad more intense and slightly darker…I’ll never write super dark or horror or anything like that…but I’ve had a lot of stress lately so I’ll work it out in a story.
I love your genre ADHD, Cheryl! :) You can find out more about Cheryl Dragon's books on her website. Be sure to buy a book and tell a friend. Happy reading!
