Welcome back to Buy a Book, Tell a Friend! For the next few weeks I'll be featuring the authors helping Cat Johnson launch her Hot SEALs KindleWorlds. There are fifteen fantastic authors joining Cat to set #HotSEALsKW into motion and there will be 15 new novellas attached to her Hot SEALs and GAPS crew. So sit back and take a look. It'll be worth the read.

This week Susan Stoker visits the blog. Susan writes hot action/adventure romance and military romantic suspense. Plus she offers a wide selection of cowboys and SEALs to enjoy. She has two new releases coming, JUSTICE FOR MACKENZIE, which is on preorder, and PROTECTING JULIE, both out the same day, August 4th 2015
. Today I asked her one question on what inspired her romance.

BBTF:
What inspired you to start writing romance and military romance, specifically??

Susan: I have always enjoyed reading a damsel in distress story...and using military men to "rescue" my women seemed natural. It also helped that my husband is retired Army and I've always loved a man in uniform!

You can find out more about Susan Stoker's books on her website, especially her new releases JUSTICE FOR MACKENZIE and PROTECTING JULIE. Be sure to buy a book and tell a friend. Happy reading!

Welcome back to Buy a Book, Tell a Friend!

This week Carol Van Natta visits the blog. Carol writes science fiction with romantic elements and action/adventure. She has won the SFR Galaxy Award for Best Difficult Relationship.
Carol is an author and a playwright, and today I asked her one question on how her life experience has helped her writing.

BBTF:
Your bio states you've done many jobs and been many things. How have your personal experiences supported and encouraged your writing?

Carol: I've always been a writer, and I can't imagine not doing it. I want to be like Andre Norton, who was collaborating with other writers when she was nearly on her deathbed. That said, since I'm not prolific like Norton (or Patterson, or Howey, or King), and I also like to eat regularly and sleep indoors, and keep the furry addicts in my house in catnip, I've had day jobs, and forays into other artistic areas, plus things I volunteered for or got roped into. I'm sure no one reading this can relate. ;-)

My muse's home planet is science fiction, but it really likes visiting romance, mystery, action, fantasy, and suspense. The thing about most jobs and experiences is that there are people in them, and funnily enough, although I write science fiction, they're all books about people. People who have careers, relationships, disasters, and extraordinary events. When I had all these crazy ideas in my head for stories, it was the real-life people I worked with that inspired me (mostly quite unknowingly) to put pen to paper, or more accurately, fingers to keyboard, to capture their their flaws, their noble moments, and their humanity.

I don't know anyone who is an ex-assassin hiding in plain sight, but I know plenty of people with secrets. I don't know anyone who has psychic powers that others want to control, but I've known several people with family that seems bent on destroying their happiness or success. And don't get me started about bureaucrats. I've had friends ask if they're in my books, and I say yes, all my friends are in my books, but I'm not telling which ones. I will admit to using staplers, salt shakers, and aspirin bottles to model action sequences, though. Doesn't everyone?

LOL on the staplers and salt shakers (looks around nervously). You can find out more about Carol Van Natta's books on her website. Be sure to buy a book and tell a friend. Happy reading!

Author of the Week: Beverly Preston

Welcome back to Buy a Book, Tell a Friend!

This week Beverly Preston visits the blog. I met Beverly back in 2010 when we both took a chance and attended the Las Vegas Writer's Group, so close to being published we could taste it. We attended the first Arizona Dreamin' together and our careers took off from there.

This week, however, I want the focus on something very important. Beverly recently learned that her youngest daughter has a very rare and nasty form of liver cancer. I've met Jordyn and she's a vivacious, caring, intelligent 15 year old girl who is facing an uphill battle while she waits for a liver transplant. Because medical bills are crazy and cancer is tough, a Go Fund Me account has been started for Jordyn to mitigate some of the costs. If you could offer a donation to help Beverly and Jordyn, that would be wonderful.

In addition, I've added Beverly's books along the sidebar and every sale helps her, too. Buy a book, tell a friend, and offer a little solace to the Preston Family. Thanks and happy reading.

Author of the Week: Jessica Lauryn

Welcome back to Buy a Book, Tell a Friend!

This week Jessica Lauryn visits the blog. Jessica writes bad boys who have demons of their own to face, usually while trying to seduce their respective heroines, but she throws in twists like magic and suspense. Who doesn't love action, suspense, romance and magic?
Jessica's brand is Romance...Where the Bad-Boy Always Wins. Today I asked her one question about her favorite heroes.

BBTF:
Your bio says you're most intrigued by dark heroes. What constitutes a dark hero and what do you like most?

Jessica: Just hearing the phrase 'Dark Hero' gets my imagination going - it sounds so sexy, doesn't it? To me, a dark hero is one who is flawed, as all heroes are, but whose demons and past mistakes run deeper and tap into an essentially darker territory than others. The dark hero may be a former villain from a previous story or he may simply be a man who has crossed into a dark place and is in need of major reform. His reasons for making the decisions he has were based on what he previously deemed to be good intentions but the difficult decisions he has made have ultimately have led him down a dark path that he must now overcome.

Not every dark hero is the same and sometimes the initial intentions which have brought him to his current state of being are not as noble as others. But some qualities these bad-boys can (and should!) share in common are boldness, bravery, and shameless bad-boy charm - sexy traits that are sure to make even the most unlikely heroine give him a second look!

A hero can only truly be at his strongest after he has been put to the test. And when a hero has gone to his darkest place, to a place full of temptation and doubt and often the enormous mistakes that come as a result of it, his finally conquering his demons can make him one strong hero indeed!
