This week I have a break in the #BBTF schedule and I thought I'd fill in the gap. In addition, I have a new release coming in The Ivory Road Serial and it's always good to promote things like this, especially because it's a cross-genre tale. Publishers love little boxes into which to put their stories, but my stories have long been more than just romance, or just suspense, or just fantasy. I will not be boxed! :D Today I answered one question about where I get my ideas for my stories.
BBTF: Where do you get your ideas for your stories?
Siobhan: Many of my stories come from dreams and end up being far more involved than the original dream itself. But I think most of my ideas come from issues I'm facing in real life and things I've seen in the world around me. I'm not talking about tangible items like cell phones and models of cars, but things like misogyny in the workplace, double standards for men and women with regards to sex, and the issues about being homosexual and bi-sexual in society.
I've always loved to write kick-ass adventure with fantastical creatures and places, but now I add hot romance and acknowledge some of the problems we face in everyday life within the fantasy. I want to make sure the reader feels like they're there in the story, experiencing the action as they read. So while I have the Fae, Ice Demons, Navy SEALs, and centaurs, the issues and interactions they have are based on things I've seen in today's world. And this is romance, or romantic stories, so there will be happy ending. Life can be far too difficult not to have a happy ending.
So grab a book. Whether you like the Fae, or SEALs, or centaurs, or ice demons, hell hounds, dragons and vampires, all of them face problems we see in our local worlds, and all of them find love.
