This week Sarah Ballance visits the blog. I met Sarah back when the Six Sentence Sunday blog hop happened each week and I knew the moment I read her snippets that I wanted to read more. This week Sarah has a new release, ONE NIGHT WITH A BILLIONAIRE, but if I know Sarah, it's not your typical billionaire romance. Today I asked Sarah one question about how she got started writing her genre.
BBTF: Your tagline is "Deadly Secrets. Thrilling Romance. Unforgettable Love." How did you start writing romantic suspense?
Sarah: When I wrote my first book - a contemporary romance - it was pretty much on a dare. I knew nothing of ebooks (and this was only six years ago) until I finished that book and a friend told me I could NOT write an entire book and just shelve it. So I started looking into publishers, at which point I discovered this weird creature called an ebook. Whatever e-reader was built into my computer at the time had several free options, one of which was Crime Scene at Cardwell Ranch by B.J. Daniels. It's a Harlequin Intrigue, and I immediately fell in love. LOVE, I say. I knew then that I HAD to write romantic suspense, and to this day the genre is my favorite late night reading material. As an author, I adore the challenge of weaving together the mystery, dropping clues and phrases that will mean something later but just sit so innocently on the page until that moment of revelation. Unfurling those meticulously plotted moments while sparks fly between characters is what keeps me up all night when I'm reading, and it's what I absolutely love about writing romantic suspense.
That would suck me in, too, Sarah. You can find out more about Sarah Ballance's books on her website. Be sure to buy a book and tell a friend. Happy reading!
